Island is one of the best known locations Arnuero Township and one of the famous tourist destinations in the eastern coast of Cantabria. It has fantastic beaches with stunnin transparent waters and magnificent views of rocks, cliffs and islets. Enjoy a rich coastal environment of different landscapes, from wide sandy beaches to secluded cove beaches and dramatic cliffs on the Bay of Biscay.

 

The island can be divided into two parts: Island village, situated on the highest point near the church, and Island Beach located along the shoreline of the estuary and beaches to Cape Quejo.

 

The old quarter of the town was declared of cultural interest in the category of Cultural Site (Cultural Route) in 2004. Important set of sights that marks the landscape is dominated by the church of San Julian and Santa Vasilisa, declared of Interest with the category of Cultural Monument in 2002, and the Palace of the Counts of Island, declared of Cultural Interest in 1991.

 

Civilian buildings stand as its three medieval towers tower Cabrahigo or Gracedo, declared of cultural interest in the Monument category in 1992; that of Novales, declared of cultural interest in the Monument category in 2002; and the four medieval towers of Rebollar, declared of cultural interest in the Monument category in 1992.
